For Parents
Parent Coaching
I offer private coaching sessions for parents who are seeking support and are looking for new tools and strategies to incorporate into their family structure. My goal is that you leave each session with not only new insight, but also with practical tools to carry home with you. I approach this work by exploring the drive and need behind children’s behavior and communication, and then offering new strategies for creating a shift in the current dynamic.
I also help parents look at what is triggered in themselves because of their experiences as a child and how to get some wiggle room in those reactions that feel so automatic.
We’ll work together to help your family create the balance and deep connectedness that you are all seeking.
Individual Support
Becoming a parent often magnifies our sensitivities, triggers, and stumbling blocks in every day life. It can also stir up old wounds and confront us with fears or heartache we didn’t even know were there. Kids need healthy, happy parents…and sometimes it takes some work to get ourselves there. If there are big emotions swirling around inside of us, it becomes nearly impossible to be the parent we want to be.
I often support parents on an individual basis to break through some of their every day challenges, mend relationships, and discover what’s holding them back from feeling fulfilled in their lives. Clever parenting strategies often won’t stick until we’re emotionally ready to jump in, so I help support parents to do the hard work of getting there.
Partnership Work
An important part of my work is to support and create successful and supportive parenting partnerships. “Being a team” in parenting is critical, and often very challenging. Together we can work on creating a strong foundation in your partnership so you can use your energy for the challenges of being a parent rather than expending it on battles between to two of you. Private Parenting Groups
Have neighbors or friends interested in meeting to talk about parenting? I offer small, private classes on all of the same topics I do in my larger workshops, and more. As the “host,” you would gather some other interested parents and we meet to discuss the topic in an interactive and intimate setting. Because of the smaller number of people, each participant has more opportunity to gather tools and insight specific to their situation. We can meet either in my office, or in a private home.
How it works:
- minimum of 4 people, maximum of 8 – (adults only, infants are welcome)
- meeting for one 2-hour session (ongoing private groups are an option, call for more details)
Observations and Home Visits
Classroom Observations
I offer classroom or playground observations for families with children who are struggling in school….for behavioral, social, or academic reasons. Parents often find it very helpful to have a neutral person they trust put some fresh eyes on a frustrating sitatuation to get another perspective.
I also often meet with teachers post-observation to offer my notes and to engage in a brainstorming session about the child, his or her challenges, and new tools or strategies to try.
“Montessori in the Home” Consultations
Want your children to be more self-sufficient at home? Feeling overwhelmed by the lack of organization and participation by your children? I act as a consultant to families who are looking for guidance in how to create and support their children’s independence in the home. I’ll help you create a fun, creative, developmentally-based, and child-managed work and play space for your child.
“Family-in-Action” Observations
For existing clients I offer in-home observations that give me a first-hand look at the behaviors and challenges parents are concerned and frustrated about. By getting a real-life glimpse of the family in action, I can offer more specific guidance based on my observations.
